The village

The advantage of Second Life is being able to change the learning environment to suit the learners. The first years have got into building little homes, so I've set them the task of creating a village. A quick bit of region texture tweaking and terraforming, and look of the land now suits the task.

Tree building day, 10am-ish

10am - 5pm. "Build one of the following type of trees:" task. All pilot students, plus a couple of level 3 students, worked on this project as an activity as part of the Big Draw event, which also took place real life in Leeds Met Library.

  • April 8th: Deadline for JISC NGEii conference
    abstracts. I am thinking of writing this about the augmentation vs immersion
    debate as in this post http://lawrie.jiscinvolve.org/2008/03/20/immersion-or-augmentation-a-culture-or-just-another-tool/
    Any Thoughts?
  • April 25th: Deadline for Taxonomy and Examples of Good Practice report (DC, DW, IG,
    SW, GH) http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=dc52xz7n_103xjvsxdb&hl=en_GB
  • April 15th: Demo at JISC conference – 10.45 to
    11.15 (DW, IT) If you can be on Open Habitat island at this time it would be helpful.
  • April 29th -30th: JISC NGEii
    conference. Might be helpful to have some of you on Open Habitat island when I
    present. I will post times when I know them.
  • May 2nd: Deadline for the Pilots Design report
  • May 6th -7th: Art & Design Pilot starts (IG, GH + DW in
    Leeds)
  • May 12th:
    First SL day for A+D pilot (IG, GH + SW and/or MPG in Leeds)
  • May 20th:
    A+D pilot Focus Group + Interviews (IG, GH + DW in Leeds)
  • May 21st: A+D pilot ends
  • June 9th (Week of): Workshop around using SL for
    debates/discussion (SW (need specific date))
  • June 13th: Habitat Advisory Meeting at London Knowledge Lab (DW)
  • June 17th, 20th, 24th, 27th
    (Afternoons): Philosophy Pilot Dates (DW) Will need help from DC and SW on the first two afternoons.
  • June 23rd-24th: Serious Games on the
